DEATH OR LIFE-WHICH IS IT?

(To the Editor of the Evening Star.) Sib ,—Through pressure beyond mea* sure for time on account of the present miserable condition of things called civilisation, I cannot allow the letter of Mr Horn, that persistent spiritualist, to pass unnoticed. The question is, does our English language and our English Bible call things by their right names, or do they not ? Is life life, or is it not ? Is death death, or is it not P I, in my sim» plicity, have always understood the words life and death to be opposites, not so, however, Mr Horn, as is evidenced by his ridiculous letter. See what a pretty state of confusion we should have in society if Mr Horn's doctrine were followed oat. For illustration, suppose a person called at Mr Horn's milk shop and requested a pint of milk, and he gave him a pint of water, what would his customer say ? I leave my readers to answer. Or suppose a customer desired of Mr Wilkes a diaI mond ring, and he gave him a pound of I beef steak, would not|the customer set Mr Wilkes down as drunk or mad? And so I might go on ad infinitum with similar illustrations. But thank God our AngloSaxon language is a very plain outspoken tongue, it calls a spade a spade, and it means what it says, and 80 people can understand one another, though they don't always get the thing they ask for unadulterated—another enigma of our glorious civizisation. Sir, in the Bible, our AngloSaxon Bible, death means death "As dead as a door nail," and so it does\in all bibles, whether Hebrew, Greek, Latin, or any other ; so also in all these does life mean life "As lively as a lark." Fat away your nonsense, friend Horn, and learn to call things by their right names. Drop, spiritualism or communion with, demon liars and be wise, then you will learn to know what is the future eternal life by resurrection, the special gift of the Eternal One through Christ Jesus. You cannot know this unless you drop spiritualism, neither can you attain unto eternal life.—l am, &c., "William Wood.
