OUR MINES.
NEW PRINCE IMPERIAL
The contractors for the shaft are making very good progress, having sunk 18 feet in a little over a week, making the total distance 26 feet. The country is of a good class for gold, and several mundie veins strike through it towards the reef. The crosscut for the Mariner's reef is at a standstill for the present, the contractors having stopped after driving 16 feet. The country is still favorable, though somewhat tighter. The drive on the west of the break is now timbered up to the boundary, and the leading stope is about 12 feet from the Cross winze, the second stope being a few feet in the rear again. The reef in both stopes has looked much better lately, and good picked stone has been obtained every breaking. Good gold wa3 showing to-day in the back of the small stope taken out for timbering purposes close to the boundary. The lode is compact, and well mineralised. The third stope has not been advaoced very far as yet past the break, and the fourth is being carried through it at present. East of the seaward winze the reef looks very promising, and is fully three feet wide. East of the shaft fair headway is being made with the drive on the main portion of the reef. Stoping is proceeding on the footwall leader, which is from six inches to a foot wide, carries good mineral, and shows gold in breaking. A few pounds of good picked stone were bagged from the second stope west last night. A start will be made to-night to continue the crosscut by wages-men.
SOUTHERN CROSS.
The winze on the boundary is down 8 feet 5 about 5 feet in height of the roof was taken down this morning, gold being seen through the stone, and several pounds of picked stone being bagged, Some stone was also obtained from the' leading stope, the total quantity from both places being 20 lbs. In the bottom of the winge the reef is a nice compact body of quartz. In the drive west, a clay band heaved the leader into the hangingwall about 6 feet back from back from the face, and the men are only just opening out upon it. No gold has been seen as yet, but the quartz looks very kindly for it. Another head is visible in the face, but beyond it, a number of quartz reins are showing. GOLD EETUENS.
