Confirmation Services.

The Right Bet. Dr Cowie, Bishop of the Church of England for this diocese, arrived from the Upper Thames district on - Saturday. Yesterday morning he preached at the Maori Church, Parawai, the sermon being interpreted^ by Mr F. A.' "Puckey. During the service the rite of confirmation was administered to three candidates. In the afternoon a confirmation service was held at St. John's Church Tararu, when the rite was administered to twelve candidates. At the conclusion of the service the, Bishop, presented yMr Horatio Phillips with a license to officiate as lay reader. In the evening a service was held at St.'George's Church, which was crowded, and twenty-nine young persons presented themselves for confirmation. The; Bishop chose for his text Rev. 2c 10r, "Be ye faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life," and preached a simple exhortation therefrom. He referred to the parallel between soldiers and Christians; in each case esprit de corps and discipline were needed. Speaking of armies, he said. standing armies were, at the present day, a disgrace to Christianity and civilization. Special hymns were sung during the: services.
