To J. T. Davenport, Esq. 1, 33, Great Bussell Street, Bloomsbury, London.—"Dear Sir, —We embrace this opportunity of congratulating you upon the widespread reputation this justly' esteemed medicine, Db. Coins Bbowne'b CHIOBODTKE, has earned for itself, not only in Hindostan, but all over the East. Ab a remedy of general utility, we much question whether a better iB, imported into the country, and we ghall be glad to hear of its finding a place in every Anglo-Indian home. The other brands, we are foappy to Bay, are now relegated to the native bazaars, and, judging from their sale, we f ncy their sojourn there will be but evanescent. We could multiply instances ad infinitum of the extraordinary efficacy of Db Coins Bbownb'b Chiobodxhe in Diarrhoea and Dyt^nteiy, Spasms, Cramps, Neuralgia, the Vomiting of Pregnancy, and as a general sedative, that cave occurred under our personal observation during many years. In Choleraic Diarrhoea, and even in the more terribJe formj of Cholera itself, we have witnessed its surprisingly controlling power. .We have never used any other form of this medicine than Collis Browne's, from a firm conviction that it is decidedly the best, and also from a sense of duty we owe to the profession and the public, as we are of opinion .that the substitution of any other than Collis Browne's is a Dembbbatk BBBACH OT FAITH ON THE PART OF aHE CHEMIBT TO PSESCBISBB ADD PATIEUT AIIKK. Medical lls there no hope ? the sick man said The silent doctor shook his head." While there is life there's hope, he said < " JEgroto, dum animas est, tpes ett" DB L. £T~ SMITH (The only legally-qualified medical man advertising). O q KBUIIB — On all affections of the Nervous System) no matter, from what cauße arising). On all broken-down constitutions. On all diseases arising from early indiscre- ■ tions. On Gout. On Rheumatism. In these colonies those excesses which we have indulged in " hot youth " tell upon us with fearful interest. Our regrets are useless, our repining futile. The sole idea Bhould be the'chanoe we possess of remedying the ills we already have, for combatting the effects likely to result. Hide it as he may, put on as good an exterior as he can, still is the victim conscious that he is a living lie, and that sooner or later his vices will discover him to the world. Our Faith, our obligations to society at large, the welfare of our future offspring, and the duty, we owe to ourselves forbids procrastination, and points out to us, not to wait till the ravages break out in our constitutions. Before negotiating with a merchant, before engaging with a confidential clerk; before employing a barrister, a oarefulinan makes enquiries as their standing, their length of occupancy or residence; and, in the case of a legal adviser, both as tc his legal qualifications and as to his capabilities of transacting the individual business he consults him upon. Strange to say, however, in the selection of medical man, the sufferer frequently omits these necessary precautions and without regard to the fitness, qualification, experience and ability for the particular ailment requiring treatment, he consults the nearest mant whose experience and practice, perhaps, lies in quite an opposite direction. Is it /astonishing that so many are driven mad, are ruined in health, and-are bankrupt in spirits, hope-and money ? Have I not for years pointed out to them that I, JDr L. L. Smith, am the only legally qualified medical man advertising in the Colonies'l . Have I not also prosecuted, at my own expense, these very quacks, and exposed the various nostrums they are seeing,—such as Fhosphodyne Essence of Life, &c. —and had them analysed and found them to consist of " Burnt Sugar and flavoring matter," and the certificates 3 have pboved to be all forgeries. It is for this reason that step out of the ethics of the profession and advertise, to give those wtio require the services of my branch an opportunity of knowing they can consult a legally qualified man, and one, moreover, who has made this his especial study. Pr L. L.
