AUCKLAND MARKETS.
On.Wednesday last a public sale took place of Waikato lands, and the result of the sale fully bore out the remarks made by us in our monthly summary of the 4th inst., as to there still being a de nand for good lands, and that purchasers were still to be found willing to give good prices at lonafide sales. In farm and dairy produce there it no alteration this week, butter remaining at 8d wholesale, and eggs at Is 3d. The supply of both these commodities is plentiful.
In kauri gum there has been a little more activity displayed, and good, steady business has been done for fair ordinary at £40 to £41 per ton; good ordinary, £42 to £45; and East Goast at £52 to £55. The receipts so far for this month are 135 tons, a most respectable amount.for only seven days. Flax continues active, at prices already quoted. Several large sales have been reported, varying from £1? to £20 per ton, according to ■ample. In maize there is a hardening tendency, local being now quoted at 5s to 5s 3d, and Fiji at 4s 6d, at which figures sales are reported.
The flour market, is unchanged, and the business, done is only for present requirements. We quote superfine silk-dressed at £13 10s; household ditto, £12 10s per ton; bran, £6 10a; sharps, £6 10s.
The activity which has been noticeable in the timber trade continues, and the demand is still far in advance of the ability to execute.
In fruits, the s.s. Hero, and Waiwera (from Aitutaki) both brought welcome supplies of Island products, the former vessel from Fiji, bringing 2552 bunches banana's, 573 cases pine-apples, and 66 packages cocoanuts. All the lines have been auctioned off at fair prices, bananas bringing from 2d.to 3d per lb. The first of the crop of cherries has reached the market, both provincial and Nelson growing. The former we quote at Is to Is 3d, and* Nelson at 8d to 9d per lb; the latter reached the market in any but good order.—Herald.
