Tkb Juvenile Opera Troupe will open at the Academy of Music on Monday evening for a short season. A meeting of the railway directors waa held last night. Mr Lind3ay Jackson reported the result of his investigations in Auckland regarding suitable land available, and laid upon the table maps, which he explained satisfactorily, It was agreed that Messrs Fraser, Brodie, and Bagnall be a committee to go through the maps and schedule with Mr Jackson, with a view to picking out the portions of the land which the Government should bo applied to for on behalf of the company to report to a meeting to be held on Tuesday next. Mr Jack* Bon reported that there is a large area of Crown land available for the company's objects. This land, if taken up at the prices actually paid for it by the Gbvorhment., ranging from 2s to £2 per acre, would" reach in value nearly £100,000. A letter waa received from the Undersecretary for Public Works in which he stated: "I am directed by the Minister of Public Works to inform you that as soon as the company is formed (i.e., incorporated) and in a position to submit bo me definite proposals, the Government will be prepared to consider the application as promptly and as favorably as possible."
