Cricket—Auckland v. Wellington.
(Pee Pbess Association.) Wellington, This day. The Cricket mateft, Auckland v. Wellington, commenced at 12.15 to- day. Tho weather was fine; with a light southerly breeze. A good Wicket was prepared. Wellington won the toss and elected to go in. Brown and Alpe were the first men, and the former, with a score of 13, skied one of Gills, which was taken by Dufaur, wicket-keeper—l-7-13. Heenan followed and after scoring 2, was caught by Gill off .his own bowling—2-2-20. Firth (Captain) was next man, but after £ dozen had been added, Alpe placed oue "of Lankham's back to him, and had to
retire—•s-20-32.^ Ljncb was next man
The score stands 3.wickets for 39. With 40 up Lankhain changed to the north end I and relieved Gill, Auckland taking the south end. The change was successful, for in Lankham's second over Lynch, in playing back hit as wicket—4-11-55. The teams then adjoirned for lunch.
Auckland 2nd Team v. Patea,
Patea. This day. The cricket matci' Auckland v. Patea concluded yesterday vith an easy victory for qhe local team. Auckland collapsed, suddenly, the last £ye wickets falling without an addition tc the score. Auckland first innings 40, second 55; Patea first innings 50, and second 47, with 6 wjekets to fall. The return match will be played to-day.
