* This day. An excellent observation of the transit of Venus was obtained hero this morning. The weather was clear, with a cloudless sky.
The Hon. Mr Rolleston and the Under Secretary for Mines visited the Terawhiti goldfields yesterday-,'and inspected several of the claims. Mr Stblleston expressed himself highly pleased at the appearance of the mines and samples of stone which were taken out.
