Great excitement was caused by the elections. There is a general impression that Government will not secure} a majority in the new House.
The criminal, Cunningham, was executed at Goulborn on Wednesday. He was quite callous to the last, assisting the blacksmith in removing the leg iron, and cursed the Queen horribly. No clergyman was present.
Valuable city properties were offered for sale on the 29th. Punch's, at corner of Pitt and King streets, was passed in at £31,000, and Hoffman's store ia Pitt street at £45,000.
Operations on the Austral hare been suspended owing to a cablegram received from the London Board that they intended to pump the vessel out by an hydraulic process. A meeting of Church of England clergy passed a resolution in favor of open air preaching to the masses where necessary and practicable
