Meibottbne, STesterday. The Railway Accident.
The total number of those injured by the Richmond railway accident is now known to exceed 50 and by some the number is estimated at fully 70. Many of the sufferers have proceeded to their homes. The injured include Mr Taylor, auctioneer, and Mr Bye, his clerk. Mr Dalgetty's clerk has his legs fractured, and Mr Andrew Jack is suffering from severe injury to his head. Miss Berry, daughter of the exPremier, is suffering from a severe shock to her system, and Councillor Cavanagh from internal injuries. Messrs Crowfcher and Bosser are dangerously wounded, and their condition is critical. Many others are seriously injured. The following are the names of others seriously injured by the Hawthorne collision :—Evilles, injuries to legs and back, and severe shock to system; Laura Brown, aged 12, fractured leg; Scorfield, a tailor, internal injuries, and is now in a critical state ; Smith, a solicitor, concussion of brain ; Mrs Lawlor, a landlady, concussion of spine; Lawrence, a school boy, of Kew, broken leg; Cochren, a clerk, fractured ribs. The injuries to the other passengers are not of a serious character.
Most of the sufferers the by railway accident are now progressing favorably. An inquest will be opened to-morrow (Tuesday), and after |tbe inquest a Court of Inquiry into the circumstances which led to the collision will be held. The stationmaster at Hawthorne has been suspended. It is expected that the damages to be awarded to those injured will be much greater than those by the Jolimount accident last year.

Our Coming Governor.
It has transpired that His Excellency Sir William Jervois has received telegrams from Earl Eimberley, Secretary of State for the Colonies, desiring him to enter upon his duties as Governor of New Zealand in January next. Sydney, Yesterday. The New South Wales Elections.
Sir Henry Parkes has been elected for Southerfield without opposition. The Hon. Jas. Walton, Colonial Treasurer, has been rejected for Young constituency by 2 votes. The cricket match between Bligh's team and eleven of New South Wales resulted as follows:—English, first innings, 461; Australians, second innings, 165; the Englishmen thus winning the match by an innings and 144 runs to spare. In the election for the Legislative Assembly now proceeding, the Hon. J. B. button, Minister of Education, and Mr T- Garrett have been returned, Messrs W. J. Forster, John Davis, and J. S. Punerell have been rejected.
