WELLINGTON.

This day. In view of the frequency of cases of absconding by the San Francisco steamer from Auckland, Government have decided to adopt a course which it is thought may have some repressive effect in cases of the kind. It has been determined to draft off to Auckland from each principal city, a detective well acquainted with the personal appearance of most of the inhabitants These officers will have express instructions to exercise strict surveillance over each departing mail steamer, and be specially on the alert a day or two proceeding its departure. Members of the Auckland force will exchange with southern detectives.
