Sydney. Yesterday. The Demi-god Dethroned. The election of four members for East Sydney constituency took place to-day, and resulted in the return of Messrs Eeid, Barton, Griffiths, and McElhone. Sir Henry Parkes and Dr Eenwick were defeated. Great excitement prevails in the city tonight. Sydney, This day. In his speech at Hastings last evening, Sir Henry Parkes said he refused to accept his defeat for East Sydney as a verdict of the country, but that ifc would probably result in certain changes in the Government. Melbourne, Yesterday. Honoringl the Victors, A torchlight procession and display of fireworks was given in honor of the Aus tralian cricketing team to-night. Mblboubne, This day. Dr Beaney Beaten. The election of members for Melbourne provinoe in the Legislative Council has resulted in the return of Mr Ham, who beat Dr Beaney by seven votes. Mr Coppin, who was also a candidate, was third.
