Another Big Canal.
A Eussian paper published in Odessa states that the canalization works for connecting the Sau with the Dnieper may be expected to be undertaken at aa early date. The promoter of the undertaking, M. Loran, a French engineer, has received the required concessions from the AustroHungarian and the Russian Governments, and is already making the necessary preparations for actively beginning the wort uext spring. The connection of the Sau, a tributary of the Vistula, and the Dniester will provide a watery way between Dantzic and Odessa, not less than 1,125 miles long, and therefore, the longest in Europe. The length of the canal to be constructed between the Sau and the Dniester will not exceed 25 miles. The Odessa paper anticipates little advantage for Russia from the new route, but considerable, advantage to Germany, as corn and wood, which have hitherto been sent down the Dneister to the Black Sea, for shipment thence to England, Q«r^. many, and other western parts of Europe will in future, in consequence of the connection of the Dniester with the Vistula by the canal and the Sau, be sent via Brombery and the Dantzic to the markets named.
