Annual Flower Show.

The annual flower show in connection with the Hauraki Ladies' Benevolent Society was held to-day in the Academy of Music. The number of exhibits was larger than at last year's show, especially flowers, while the vegetables did not come up to the usual standard, probably on account of the unfavorable weather experienced till lately. The lemons, , strawberries, and gooseberries were fine samples, and the cherries were also good. The exhibits of peas, potatoes and other vegetables were quite as fine as last year. The floral designs were very pretty; that of Mrs Marshall, who took first prize, was a miniature garden, with a summer house in the centre. A. number of fern exhibits were sent in, but as some of them were not growing they bad to be discarded. The exhibit of Mrs Laishley, who gained first prize, was an excellent one, and the same lady also took second prize. The bouquets were fully equal to last year, and the exhibit of native flowers looked very pretty, though of course not so good as those^ foreign to New Zealand. Mr 0. S." McDonald, of Newmarket, acted as judge, and his awards ought to give satisfaction. The doors were opened at three o'clock, and though there were not many visitors this afternoon there will no doubt be a full attendance this evening. The following is the prize list: —
