OUR MINES.

THAMES DEEP LEVEL TRIB^E.

The face of the south drive has ijfeen advanced about 15ft since the contractors started work. The sandstone is of a favorable class for gold, but is rendered tight for driving by a number of quartz veins, varying in size from one to five or six inches. Some of these carry good bright mineral, while others are white and barren looking. A leader right in the face, close to the floor, appears to carry more mineral than the others. It is also mixed up with a flinty, which has apparently come in on the footwall side. A large amount of water is issuing from this leader, mostly on the floor. The large reef which was in the face when driving was started has drained, and the water is only coming from it on the floor of the drive. A good current of air is brought in by the pipes, but both the large reef and the smaller leaders are giving out a quantity of gas which makes the air lighter than it would otherwise be. GOLD RETURNS. Albttbnia.—McLean and party hare crushed 20 loads of general dirt for the fine yield of 87ozs sdwts melted gold. City of Manchbstee. — Scott and party, proprietors, have banked 22ozs lOdwtsgold. . KubanotHii/l.—Bennett and party have treated 2 loads of general dirt for the return of 3pzs 9dwts gold.
