The auditing of the accounts of the Vincent County has resulted in the discovery of a deficit of about £400. A veby curious case wts advanced a stage in Wellington on Saturday. Mr Edward Shaw moved before Mr Justice Richmond, sitting in banco, for a rule nisi calling upon a Maori named Winiata to show cause why he should not deliver up to the custody of Miss Freebody, her sister, Annie Freebody, aged about nine years. Miss Freebody, sister of the child, has now arrived from England, empowered by her father to obtain its possession, but Winiata refuses to give it up on the grouud that he had adopted it. A rule nisd was granted,and yesterday Mr Buckley appeared to show cause against it, Mr E. Shaw attending in support of it. After argument His Honor made the rule absolute, and a writ of habeas corpus has been issued for the surrender of the child to the Judge at 11 o'clock on Tuesday next..
