Athletic Carnival.

The threatening state of the weather, with showers of rain and one of hail interspersed, interfered considerably with the Athletic Carnival yesterday. However, the sky brightened somewhat in the afternoon, and a considerable accession of visitors was the consequence. The sum of £19 5s was taken at the gates. Mr Kirkpatrick officiated as starter, and Mr P. Perry as judge. Tbe following events were competed for after our last pigeon was despatched :— Final Heat foe Cup—44o Yabds. Brabant 1 Tregonning ... 2 Christie 3 Christie took the Cup, and Brabant second prize. Thbee Legged Race. This was contested by about half a dozen couples. It was won with ease by Sustens and McLiver. The Sack Race brought out a variety,of competitors. Hicks won easily. Half Mile Handicap. Only Hall and Johnson competed, and the latter won comfortably. Juniobs' Race—Bo yards. Four boys ran in the following order :— Farrell, 1 ; Burns, 2; Coney, 3; Greenville, 4. QUAETEB-MILE RACE. Myers, 25 yards ; Johnson, 20 yards ; Tregonning, 12 yards; and Christie, 15 yards, started. Won by Tregonning, Christie being close up. Throwing Cbicket Ball. Johnson, Lynch, Styak, Ogilvio, and Hicks entered for this. Johnston won. Hurdle Race, 300 yards, over five flights of hurdles. The competitors were Ban me, Airey, Johnston, and McLiver. Baume first, Airey second. The Consolation was hotly contested by Hall, Herbert, and Godkin. Herbert breasted the tape first, with the others at close quarters.
