NEW PRINCE IMPERIAL. In the drive going west at No 4, a . good portion of the reef is now stripped* and will be taken down shortly. The country continues of a good class. A small portion of the footwall of the reef ha 3 been broken, and looks well, though it is vuggy. The leading stope is being advanced. A. few pounds of stone'were obtained from here yesterday while putting in a stall piece, and a good show is still visible. Rich gold is also showing in the roof of the leading stope elo?e to the break, and the precious metal can also be seen in the break itself. The second stope is now forward to the break, bat a portion of the footwall of the reef, where good gold is visible, is still standing. In the eastern drive good progress is being made, and the face is about 20ft' past where the winze comes down. The general dirt shapes well at the mill, the amalgam for the first four days' ruu amounting to 2200z5. THAMES DEEP LEVEL TRIBUTE. The pumps were stopped for a couple' of hours yesterday to change the bucket at tbe 640;'t level. The manager has stcrted the wages men to continue tbe south drive >t the bottom level, and tenders will be called for driving 100 feet to morrow or next day. The country is found to be of a very congenial class for ■ gold. THAMES GOLDEN CROWN. A late report from the mine manager says:—New tunnel, battery level: Tjbe contract for the first section of 200 feet was completed to-day, so far as the driving is concerned, but it will take the contractors a day or two longer to finish timbering up and completingjheir work, during which time tenders will be invitedfor the second section of 240 feet, which distance, is snffi. cient to connect with the rise already put up on No. 2 reef in Cure section, and 1 herewith enclose sketch plan of new tunnel and rise, showing position,, &c. 100 feet level, No. 3 leader: la driving south, towards the slide, the ground around the leader has bean very hard the lest 10 feet, and the leader has also been pinched up, but the country now appears to be improving, and a change for the better may be expected. No. 2 reef, 103 feet level, Cure section : In the stopes on this reef, as they are being carried north, the reef is improving much, showing firstclass minerals, and the quartz improving at the battery. Intermediate level, between ICO and 170 feet levels : From this level, the stopes on the No. 1 reef are being carried on, and a good supply of payable quartz is b«ing obtained. 170 I feet level: The principal work carried on at this level is on Clarke's leader, which has now become rather smaller than it has hitherto been, but continues to show gold freely, and may be expected to open out to its usual size at any time. Since cleaning ..lip, on Tuesday last, the battery ha|;been stopped one day, for some slight repairs and alterations to cams, stampers, Sec. It is now in full work.—Tenders were opened at noon to-day for driving 240 ft at battery level, and that of Smith and party at 13s 6d per foot was accepted. GOLD RETURNS.
