The Cape Colony.
The Hon T. C. Scanlan, Premier, made a speech last night, in the course of which he took occasion to deny (he truth of a statement current last month that the Cape Government had decided to withdraw from Basutoland. He added that failing settlement of the difficulty in that territory, the Government would rely on the people of the colony and not on Eng*, land to carry out- the measures necessary for the maintenance of order and obedience to the law. , : > Aiexandbiju November 6. Legal proceedings in connection with the trial of Arabi and other rebel officers are being pushed forward by the Commission, but the preparation of the mass of evidence which has been taken has,caused delay in commencement, of the trial. English counsel has been retained to conduct the prosecution. . November 5. The Soudan Expedition. Preparations for the despatch of an expedition to Soudan to subdue the Arabs who have taken up arms under the false prophet, are progressing rapidly. A considerable body of f rpops is being organised and a large number of those who fought under Arabi and were subsequently amnestied, are enlisting. London, November 6. Anthony Trollops Indisposed, Mr Anthony Trollope, the novelist, is seriously indisposed. (Special to Pkess Association) London, November 5. *A French expedison is to be sent to Madagascar unless Jlobbs evacuates the north part of the kingdom. The Rev. Mr Green has been liberated from confinement. ' It is rumored that Arabi is to be ' imprisoned at Cyprus; The Soudan proplist has been accepted as the Redeemer by 150,000 followers. He i proposes first to conquer Egypt, and then advance on Mecca and fight the Turks. It is feared that a large portion of tho men forming Baker Pasha's expedition against him will desert, and swell the prophet's forces. Khartoum is undefended. %
