Yesterday
Messrs Hannay and Lowe in their report re the late railway accident near Waititi state that in the evidence adduced and among all the circumstances nothing has transpired to point prominently to any immediate cause of the derailment of the traio. To all appearances the line was in good running working order. Although the leading wheels are somewhat worn they were not sufficiently so to warrant that the accident should be attributed to them. There was no positive evidence to show what did cause the train to leave the rails. They do not find that any negligence or wrongful act of any person caused this accident, but collateral circumstanoes brought under notice during the enquiry demand strict investigation, and will result in increased vigilance throughout the service.
