This day.

A disgraceful riot occurred at the Theatre Royal yesternight. Ben Allah, the conjuror, was giving an entertainment, and in the gift distribution did not act up to promises. The audience broke the gangway through the theatre, and destroyed chairs, See., portions of which were thrown at the conjuror, who escaped precipitately by the back door. A large mob followed him to .the. hptel, hooting

and bellowing in a disorderly manner. St Andrew's Handicap—Nigger, Nebula* Zatipo, Venture, Chiquita, Yuba Bill, Dewdrop, Lyric, Yatapa, Lone Hand, Merlin, Fitz Hercules, Lara, Angler, Libeller. ; Steeplechase -4 Ellerslie, St. Swithin, Chandler, Harkaway, Champagne, Whitefoot, Chanticleer, Angler, Tempest, Tricotrin, Miss Walton.

Colonel Tupman and Lieutenant Elmesley Coke, members of the English transit of Venus party, left for the South today per Manapouri, It is not yet definitely decided where the trausit will be observed from, as Tupman is desirous of consulting Dr Hector before arriving at any decision.
