NEW PRINCE IMPERIAL.
: The retorting last night gate the rich return of. 15740zs gold, and a further' retorting today of the silver and i the amalgam from some of the headings which could not be treated in time for yesterday's retorting gave 27ozs. The general dirt averaged a little over 2yozs per load, 160 loads yielding 3740zs gold. The average from the specimens was the good "one' of , 12dwts, per lb, the whole parcetyielding 1200ozs gold. The melted return was 15Q6£ozs. For convenience in referring to workings on the Beach leader the mine has .been divided into, four sec* tions. No. 1 section eait takes in all the ground from the shaft to the winze, and No. 2 takes in from the winze to the boundary. No. 1 west takes in from the shaft to the break, and No. 2 from the break to the boundary. The drive at No 4, towards the Southern Cross, is in 40/t past the break, 75 feet being left to drive before reaching the boundary. Some 8 or 9 feet of the reef is stripped and will be broken down .shortly. - A small hole" was made in it close to the face, and gold was found showing in the stone. It is therefore, likely that a parcel of picked, stono or specimens will come from here' when the reef is taken down., The reef in the leading stope, IS 0. 2 section west, has been stripped for~a height of several feet, but it will not be broken before Friday. A good show of gold is risible in the face and roo.f of the second ntope, No. 1 section west. This stops will be continued to-morrow morning. Eastward driving is in progress, and the face has been advanced about 12 feet beyond where the winze comes down.
. WAIOTAHI. Cleaning up and retorting took place at the battery this morning, and the return after melting weighed 2820zs 17dwts.gqld This is hardly up to the average from this* mine, but the deficiency is no doubt caused by the battery not working full time all the month. The amount of general dirt treated was only 200 tons, so the quarts that has been treated is evidently as irich as ever. . SEYMOUR. This company is vigorously carrying on operations under the management of Mr C. Moorcraft. A shaft is being sunk between 50 and 60ft north of the old Lucknow shaft by six men. The bottom is now down 60ft in a good class of couh* try. A few small quartz stringers have been passed through, but no leader of importance has been met with yet. The size of the shaft is 7ft by 3ft 6in. in the clear, and it is intended to sink it to a depth of 230 ft before opening out.
