SOUTHERN CLiOSS. .The winate is now. down fully 60.feet, and . the reef maintains its size and appearance. -In down, good colors of gold are freely seen, and a few stone come to fraud occasionally. Crush* ing, will probably be started this week.
THAMES DEEP LEVEL TEIBUTE.
The men bare cleaned out the air box- a for a length of bearly 500 feet, aud the drive is now well ventilated for that distance. A portioo of the drive has given way here, but it will no doubt be cleared out of 1 tbe way 'before long; When operations were formerly in swing at this level some of tbe air boxes were removed from the south crosscut, and placed in a drive towards the Crown ground. It is at this point the drive has collapsed, and the manager has therefore to clear away a lot of the debris in order to get out the boxes. When the drive'jjs repaired to the face,,h'e! wUl Tprobably, drive'a few feet before calling for tenders, so as to see what the country is like. >:1 i: i; > MOANATAIEI. '■-</. Nonpareil section, 215 ft level and east of shaft: The lead we are driving on is of a very promising character, frequently yielding small parcels of picked btone. Nonpareil low level, or 260 ft below surface : A strong healthy looking leader, about 8 inches wide, was discovered on Thursday laat in a cross-cut which has been driven north east and north of Nonpareil shaft. -Before driving on its course, the cross-cut will be extended some little distance, as I think we are in proximity with another leader ■and which may prove to be of more value than the one referred to above. We shall not'retoft .before the latter part of next week, as it will take till that time to get the tributers parcels through.—J. G. Vivian."
QUEEN OF BEAUTY. .At No. 9 level the contractors for driving: seaward on the main reef are ' making good progress in a favorable class country. The reef is about 3 feet thick aud carries kiudly mineral. The drive on the course of the lode, east of the cross-reef, iralso beinjnsusbdd ahead.
