The meeting of the Mutual Improvement Association was largely attended last night. Mr T. L. Murray, the President, delivered an excellent address, which it was the unanimous opinion of the members should be published. Mrs Neill, wife of the Rev. S. J. Neill, was elected an honorary member. Notice of motion was given relative to the formation of a shorthand class in connection with the Association. Next meeting Mr Adanw, 8.A., will give a lecture on .the mound-builders of America.
The anniversary soiree in connection with the Baptist Sunday School will be held at the Church, Willoughby street, this evening.
All persons disposed to aid the construe* tion of the Thames-Aroha railway are requested to meet tho provisional directors this evoking at the Borough Chambers. A KEETIN& of the creditors of T. M. Davis, of jAufckland, commission agent, was held yesterday morning. The debtor's liabilities are set down at £850, and the assets at about £150. Among the creditors are B shop Neville, of Dunedin, whose name figures for £150. Some 20 creditors put in an appear* ance. The bankrupt was examined by the trustee «t length, and rather severely, and after much comment by the creditors on the bankrupt's affairs and hia mode of life since February last, it was unanimously cirried, that the trustee ascertain jif any legal steps can be taken to prosecute the bankrupt.
