Thkee has been considerable excitement in | the kauri gum market during the week, and prices have accordingly firmed. It is with., difficulty that we can strike the proper value, ' as buyers do not care to pay the increased prices, and holders are likewise indifferent .to' doing business, in anticipation of a still firmer market. On the whole, few transactions hare taken place, and we now quote for good ordinary from £40 to £41 per ton, and for East Ocast from £50 to £51. The quality of the latter at present being obtained at the gumfields appears to be very inferior, and several of the dealers have fired up buying this class of gum, confining their purchases to the ordinary, deeming the former not worth the difference in price. The re- | ceipt? for the month to date we gire as 263 tons. Advices from London, under date of 7th September, intimate a firm market for kauri gun there.—Herald.
