NEW PRINCE IMPERIAL.

The manager yesterday started to break down the No. 2 reef back towards the break from the point at which it was intersected, and the opinion he expressed a few days ago, to the effect that he would probably get some gold here was amply verified, as the following telegram to the directors will show : " 2501bs specimens from drive seaward of break. Good gold still showing in back of drive.—-G. S. Cla-ek." The lead was not broken down right up to the break, so a few pounds more stone will probably dome to hand from here shortly. The reef is fully two feet in thickness. SOUTHERN CROSS. The winze on No. 2 reef from the New Prince Imperial No. 3 level is" down about 53 feet, in a good though tight class of country. The leader has lately opened out, and is now two feet thick. In taking it down yesterday morning 201bs of nice picked stone were obtained, and a further breaking this morning produced a like quantity. Gold is still showing in (wo or three places in the bottom. The stone obtained is of ftood quality, and carries a large amount of ruby silver. The winze has yet to be sunk a distance of about 40 feet before it will be on a level with the drive at No. 4. KURANUI HILL. „. -Retorting took, place this morning, and, the return, after melting, weighed 45ozsr 15dwts. This is poor, but next month's yield will probably be better, as the manager is opening up two or three likely blocks of ground.
