OUR MINES.
NEW PRINCE IMPERIAL. Id breaking down io the second stope seaward of the western winze this morning, a haul of 401 bs of specimens and 201 os of picked stone was bagged. This is no doubt the continuation of the run met with in the winze. At No. 4 level the drive seaward on No. 2 reef is stopped for the present, the men being employed laying down the rails. , At the battery 17 head are employed, and th« quartz is showing up well both on the plates and in the berdans. KURANUI HILL. The company's quartz will all be through the mill to-day and cleaning up and retorting will probably take place to morrow. In the mine the work going on at present is chiefly prospecting. A crosscut has been driven from the Shotover level to cut the No. 1, or All Nations lead, which was met with to day. The manager will now drive along it till over the stopes upon it recently worked by him in the Junction section, and which had to be stopped on account
of the lightness of the air. fie will then sink on the lead and connect with the stopes, which will create a good current of air, and enable him to take out the remainder .of the block without further trouble. The rise on what Mr Crawford took tobeDabb's leader, in the Oddfellows' section, has been stopped, as he has found he is on the wrong lead. The men are now cleaning out an old drive at the Shotover level which will give him 60 feet of backs before he gets up to Dabb's workings. If it should be found desirable, he can also clean out another old drive, and hole through to the top ot the rise put up, thus opening up a good block of ground. The dirt from this rise shaped; payably at the mill. The tributers, James and party, have crushed "a further parcel of 240 ibs Sicked stone and specimens for tbe splenid yield of 2540zs 18dwts gold, making a total for eight weeks' work of 5660zs 15dwts. EXTENDED. This claim which was recently pegged out by Mr Jas. Garvey, is situated below the Bright Smile. It has since been floated as a company, Mr Garvey being appointed supervisor. The. first work will be the.driving of a tunnel to cut'the Briton and Monarch reefs, which yielded well in earlier times. Tenders will be ' called for this work in a few days. The first reef Mr Garvey expects to meet with in about 80ft, but to cut the Monarch tode he will have to drive about 150 ft. REUBEN PAHR ' A late report from the manager £ays: The mine is looking better in breaking down to-day. In the end going east we got a little gold; we gota few stones with^ blotches of gold in them. The leader is from 8 inches to afoot in width. We are in good country, and in next breaking down I expect to get a little more ; we will not break down for a day or two, as the ground is very; tight. If it improves I will let you know by wire. PINAFORE.
The manager reported as follows a day or two ago •. — The crosscut in No.. 1 level is now extended 29 feet, and daily expecting to intersect the hangiogwall of main reef, the country and leaders now' going through being favorable for gold. In intermediate stopes pn surface a temporary level is being made in order to shift the mullock from thestope. This will be completed to-nierrow, when, sloping will be resumed, and also cutting across the reef to footwall to test its quality. The crushing will not. be completed before Friday next. Ihe stuff" from the quarry is proving payable, and that from the stopes has shown up very well, nine loads having given 45 ounces of amalgam from the plates. The picked stone has not yet been treated. GOLD RETURNS. Kubantji Hill.—Dabb and party have treated 18 tons for the yield of 13ozs Idwt gold.—Ash and party's parcel of 8 loads gave 13ozs gold. | '' * Queen of Beauty.—Connolly and party have treated 7 loads at the Alburnia mill for the payable return of Bozs lldwts gold. This dirt was taken from the leader recently found in the footwall of the Queen of the May reef. .
