Thames Band of Hope Society.

The first annivHrsary soiree of the Thames Band of Hope soiree was- held yesterday evening at the Go id Templars' Hall. Mr Thomas Hammond presided. About two hundred persons -chiefly young folk—sat down to tea. Tl>e Secretary, Mr Nodder, read the annual report. It stated meetings of an educational character have been held fort niyhtly. in all of which the primary object has been to instil into the mihda of members the many real and good advantages to be derived by practising the principles of total abstinence, and we hope the efforts thus put forth will uot be fruitless and in,| vain. The members in general have I evinced great interest in the meetings by I thejr attendance, and have most willingly j and well sustained their portion of.the meetings by numerous . recitations, dialogues, &c. But we think great encouragement would be given to the y-bulb ful members if parents and guardians would more frequently visit the meetings, and if members of committee would strictly attend to their plan of appointments, the meetings would be rendered more attractive an I profitable. There have been 150 members enrolled during the twelve months, and we hope to go on increasing." Addresses were delivered by Mr William Price and the Rev. Mr Bull. At intervals songs and recitations were given, the vocal contributions of Misses Kollerson and BeDnett being especially appreciated, as was Miss Hunter's performance on the piano. ' '
