KARANGAHAKE.

(FBOM OUJB OWN COJRKEBPONDENT.) Haubaki.—Work is being carried on in several parts of the mine and a large amount of stone is now ready to forward as soon as the battery is finished, which from present appearances will be some time yet, as the contractor does not seem in any hurry to complete it. A new leader was cut in this mine last wrek, and, like the others, prospects well, but little work has been done on it. The principal part of the .stone U being taken from No. 4s leader," which shows gold freely in breaking out. Noble.—The reef has been driven on 80ft, and prospects well all the way. A new level will be started to give 10') feet more backs than the present level, and will be easily connected with the Hauraki Company's tram i iana.—A tunnel has been started to cut the Noble leader, which has been traced up to the boundary. Mabia.—The shareholders talk of forwarding five; tons to the Thames as a trial. This will cost some money, owing to the want of a road. Work has been suspended ia the Golden Crown, Martha, and Jumbo, and some of the shareholders have left for Auckland to make arrangements .for machinery. Several new claims have been pegged out and work started, and there can be no doubt but that a large amount of payable country has been opened up that only wants time and capital to mate it one of the most prosperous mining centres in the North Island ; but a road is badly wanted to allow " tucker " to be taken to the, miners at a reasonable cost, which, cannot be done at present. / ,
