Some of the batteries on the flat are suffering from saaroity of water, as motive- power. The Queen of Beauty pump which bf« first right, is using a great deal just now, almost half. The props in the tunnels of the race, it is found, impede the flow, and diminish the force of the water considerably, each causing an eddy around it. Mr Aitken, the County Engineer, is taking steps to have this remedied by lining'the tunnels. 'Those batteries which have contracted for a constant supply of water have first right, and when the quantity is short it is divided amongst those who only take it as required as fairly as possible. The Alburnia and Herald come within the latter category, the former running 16 hours, the latter eight hours at present.
