At the Supreme Court, Adams,convicted of conspiracy, was brought up for sentence. In a lengthy statement he denied his guilt, and contended that he had been found guilty on false evidence. Judge Richmond said tiwj. .case^jras an extraordinary one, and lie intended'riot to make any comment on it at present. There were certain points requiring further consideration, and ne would 1 post? pone judgment. Prisoner, would be admitted to bail on finding sureties for £200., r A breach of prpmise case ? ,. Messrs Dick, Bryce, and Rolleston returned to Wellington this morning. '

With reference to the vacant portfolio it has transpired that Mr Wright was offered a seat in the Cabinet with' the portfolio of Postmaster - General, but although he was quite willing to join the Government, he '.would not accept any; other portfolio than that of Minister of Public Works, as being the otfe'iii which his services, owing to his previous train' ing, would be most effective. Mr Wright would have taken the portfolio of Minister of Public Works had it been vacant. It is understood he leaves for Christchurch this morning.
