Waitekauri Road.

A meeting was held at Waitekanri on luesday evening the 26th September, to answer the- following letter from the County Council, Mr P. Nolan chairman : — "Thames, Bth September.—A tran script fof the proceedings at a meeting held at Waitekauri on the 24th nit., was presented to the Council by Mr Councillor Praser, and I am- instructed, in relajion thereto, to submit for the information of your Committee the following resolution of the Council: ' The Council offer a bonus of fifty pounds (£SO) to any party who will lay off a road not exceeding B i x (6j miles in length, and with a grade not exceeding 1 in 20, from Paeroa to the Waitekauri mineß.' You will also please to inform the Committee the Coun cil nerer voted £850 for the Waitekauri road.—E. W. Hollis, Cierk and Treasurer T.C.C.—Mr R> J. Woods, Waitekauri."—lt was proposed by Mr A. Menzies, seconded,by Mr Shepherd, and carried, " That while a staff of engineers are paid a large salary by the County, this meeting is of opinion that it would be a waste of money to pay fifty pounds (£SO) to any outside party for laying off roads, as it is the business for which the engi« neer is paid." Moved by Mr Butler, seconded by Mr Graydon,- and carried unanimously, " That the meeting were well aware before the receipt of their letter that the Council had not. voted any money for the hill track." Proposed by ♦"Mr H. Sutler, seconded by Mr T. Hollis, and carried, "That a^vote of censure be pased on Mr A. Porter for his action in regard to the hill track." Proposed by Mr C. Comes, seconded by Mr H. Butler, and carried, "That the Committee appointed at a former meeting, with power to add to them, be deputed to wait upon the Warden and lay the whole business before him." The meeting then terminated with the usual vote of thanks to the Chairman.
