This day. The mail services, for which Mr Andrew Young was the successful ten-
derer commences on the Ist November, not Ist January as previously telegraphed.
The cricket season will be opened today by a lunch to be given this afternoon, at which Sir Jas. Prendergast, ActingGovernor, and the Premier, will be present.
The consideration as io the - vacant portfolio still occupies the attention of Government, nothing being decided.
The nominations of emigrants to be forwarded by the outgoing mail tomorrow number 621, distributed as follows :—Otago, 264 ; Canterbury, 185; Wellington, 113; Taranaki, 7 ; Hawkes Bay, 20; Nelson, 11; Marlborough, 10; Westland, 12. The, Auckland list was not received in time to forward by this mail. The above comprise 118 single men, 258 single women, uni the remainder families. Yesterday. The Customs revenue of the colony for September amounts to £140,022, being an increase of £2922 over the previous month, and £21,230 over the corresponding month of last year. The beer tax shows a substantial increase during the year, the duty last mont,h being £5293, as compared with £4537 of September last year.
