Mb Ebbingxon, C.E., of Auckland, came down last night at the request of the Harbor Board to report upon the following works.:— 1. The cost of such alterations to Curtis' Wharf as will render it suitable for foot traffic, with an additional structure at the outer end for the conTenienje_of^the^steg^ nX« m tri"'s^ff,jQ..tJw^ Upper Tbamoe, 2. The cost of constructing a wharf on the site of Curtis', suitable for carl traffic. 3. To extend the Goods Wharf, say 200 ft., with an L on the outer end ; also, to make solid with mullock 300 ft., or up to the reclamation works, at the shore end ; to divert the debris from the Waiotahi Creek in the direction of the Moanatairi mullook tip.
A woman was arrested for drunkenness last night. The sergeant was afraid she was about to be confined, and sent for the doctor who advised that she should be taken home. A prohibition order against selling her liquor has been in existence for months, yet she manages to get drunk. It is said she sends a little girl aged about six years to the public house to purchase] the drink, and ifc is thus supplied. There is no clause in the Act prohibiting publican's from supplying children with intoxicants to be consumed off the premises. The Rev. W. Calder will conduct his usual monthly service at St. John's church, Tararu, at 3 o'clock to-morrow afternoon.
The lud Palmer, who bad his arm crushed at Mennie and Dey's factory a day or two ago, is still in a rather critical state, though the doctor thinks be is slightly better this morning. Erysipelas set in last night, but Dr Payne hoped to be able to overcome it. The anniversary services of the Congregational Church will, us is notified in another column, take place to-morrow.
Thk application for the registration of tbe Mariner Gold Mining Company appears in another column. Mb R. R. McGregor advertises that he will sell several cottages on the 18th inst. Mb Wm. Carpenter will shortly sell at Mrs Rao's, Shortland, her leasehold property and a number of unredeemed pledges.
