McLean, of the Thames, have recently spent some time in the upper part of the Waipa ralley and Eangitoto range, which fofms the southern boundary of the valley. The Rangitoto range has never hitherto been looked at for minerals, the quartz specimens hitherto procured; having been obtained from the Tuhua, a considerable distance away. Thompson and McLean were successful in obtaining quartz specimens, and in washing excellent, prospects in the creek. The owners of all the land over which Thompson and McLean went are willing that it should be opened, and are anxious to see and deal with the Native Minister at the earliest opportunity.
