The following reports were laid 6n the table to-day :—
BOARD OF WOKKS.
Hastings Riding :: The Tapu road has been cleared of slips so as to admit the passage! of liglit drays as far as Puru.. The'remarbdier of slips on this portion of the road are now being cleared. A con" isiderable amount of work still remains to be done on this road between Puru and Waikawau. The wbrk authorised to be done on the Waiomo Creek road will be done during the,present month. Waiotahi Biding: The principal work during the month in.this riding has been clearing slips and. improving the; main road ler.ding up the Waiotahi Creek. A considerable amount of quartz has been carted from the claim near the head of this road dur» ing the month, and from the work which is now beinggcaA'ird on in that locality a large amount of quartz will be broken out rid carted to tbe batteries for some time to come. Kauaerknga Riding: The rbidsin this riding have been maintained and rapaired during the month. Work has been done principally on the road Hape and Karaka, Karaka^road, and Te Papa Gully road. The road authorised to Duke of Bedford claim is now nearly completed, aad will be ready for conveyance of quartz during the present week. Parawai Riding : The principal w;ork done in this riding during the month has been on the Kauaeranga Valley road, and a very considerable improvement has been made on the worst portions of this roed. Tbtara Riding: Two men have been employed in levelling, filling ruts, &c, on this road, and tbe Ohinemuri coach is now running regularly. The great want on this road is metal, and arrangements should, 4f possible, '} be made for metalling this road during the summer. Ohinemuri Riding: The Te Aroha is now passable for coach traffic ; only ous man has been employed on this road duriug the month. Men are employed on the Katikati road between i Mackaytown and Owharoa in levelling, forming and preparing road for metal, should the County be in a position to do any metalling on the road during the Bummer. The bridges on the Waitawheta road require repair, and as the settlers in this locality have done a considerable amount of work on this road I would recommend the bridges t© be repaired. ■ I beg to recommend that two day kb^r men be employed, to cut away sharp points, and make good the soft portion of the Otunui Road via Hape Creek.—Alex. OHINEJUUBI IBANCH DISTBICr HOSPITAL
Tour Committee interviewed the Hon. Mr Dick in Auckland upon the above subject, when he expressed a favorable opiuion regarding the Council's proposal to erect the hospital, but considered it doubtful if the Government would do more than grant a £ for £ subsidy in aid. —A. Beodie, Chairman. CEMETEKY COMMITTEE. Your Committee when at Paeroa arranged for fencing in one acre of block " Pukcremu" for a cemetery ; also for ploughing, harrowing, and sowing the enclosure with grass, the - estimated cost of the whole being £38 ss. Your Committee also authorised the fencing of the public pound, at a cost of £16 17s, and the sale by auction of the fees, for one year, by Mr West.—'Alw. Bsodie.
