KURANUI HILL.
The manager reported yesterday as follows :—" Junction leaders: There is nothing of special importance to communicate since last week's report. Stoping going on as usual. Oddfellows: Fair progress is being made in the rise through splendid looking country, containing first class indications of a gold bearing nature, the leader main taining the same favorable appearance, and a few.colors of gold being seen occasionally. Albion: There yet remains about 120 ft. to drive before the All Nations shaft is reached. This is the most probable portipn of the ground in which to meet with good deposits of gold—at all eveDts from that level upwards. I purpose com menoing to crush this day week.—T. H. Cbattfobd." SOUTHERN CROSS.
Up to the present driving has been continned westward on the main reef at the . 400 ft level of the Big Pump shaft, but as the quartz has lately shown no improvement driving will be stopped and a leading stope started at the point where so much antimony was seen a short time ago, in the hope "of picking up something. t?he only other work now going on in this 'company's property is the winze on the No. 2. reef from the No. 3 level "of the New Prince Imperial shaft. Three shifts are at work here, and a distance of 20ft has been sunk. The lead Las been broken down, but no gold was seen. It will not: be taken down again for a few days till a good-sized piece has been stripped. At first it was small, hut it has now spread out to about.ten inches or. a foot in thickness. The total distance to be sunk is 90ft, and the manager expects to be down ! before the No. 4 level now in progress by | Mr Clark is driven to the boundary. j CALEDONIAN.
The manager reports as follows for last week :—There has been no work done on the specimen lead, No. 2 chamber, this week. The men are employed timbering up drive from Cure crosscut, mentioned in my last. Winzp, footwall No. 1 reef, .No. 2 lerel: East drive has been driven 6 feet, still continuing to carry gold ..in small quantities, and the whole of the dirt is sent to the mill. The westward drive has been left standing while stoping is being carried along the drive cleaned outlast week here. The leader looks very well in the stopes. A few pounds of stone came from them this week where the drive is beicg repaired. The leader in the roof of drive is also looking well; colours of gold can be seen for 10 feet in length. I shall start a rise over this- drive on the leader as soon as possible, as I believe I am on the old footwall specimen leader, which turned out so well at No. 1 intermediate levels; If so, it may prove to have something to do with the continuation of the lost run of gold. Winze, Otago section, is down 10 feet. The reef is 5 feet.thick, but a trial of five loads only yielded 25dwts, or -5d wts per load. Bed Queen crosscut is in tight country. The men from drive, top Capt. Bichprds' rise, and men from old rite/No 1 level, are cleaning out the old drive from No. 2 shaft, which is 70 feet above No. 1 level, to connect with their rise and drive, and, when connected I shall be able to work the block risen through to better advantage. Still crushing 8 hours with 10 head per day; 2700zs amalgam on band and 20ozs gold.—T. B. Hicks. GOLD RETURNS.
Moanataiei. —Ellings and party have crushed a parcel of qaartz for the yield of 2ozs 12dwts melted gold.
