A heavy rain has fallen during the past few days over the Eastern States, and severe floods in various parts have resulted. Several towns in the low-lying districts of New York State are inundated, and there has been much destruction of property. Several bridges have been washed away by the storm water.

A serious railway accident has occurred in a tunnel near New York. Two trains were telescoped, 12 persons were killed and a large number wounded.
