CHRISTCHURCH.
Yesterday,
A case in which a great deal of interest, was taken by the Jewish residents came before the R.MT. Court to»day. A man named H. E. Nathan has been for nearly a year occupying a seat in the synagogue to which he bad no right, and was deaf to all remonstrances. AVlength the officers ,of the church would put up with it no 'longer; and on the festival of the New Year called in a constable to eject him. The constable refused to do so, and the president of the congregation, with some assistance, did it himself. The fracas, as may be supposed, caused great scandal amongst the people of the Hebrew faith. Nathan entered an action for assault [against the President, M. Harris, and C. Lawson,? but the Bench held that they had acted quite rightly, and dismissed the case, giving costs against Nathan.
A man named Harding was committed for trial to-day for robbery with violence, and sentenced to six months for stealing £7 from a man who had befriended him.
A woman died in the Springfield district" in child«oed on Saturday night. Death is said to have been hastened by the brutality of the husband and the ignorance of the person who attended her. An inquiry is to ba held.
