AUCKLAND.
This day.
Steps are being taken to ruo. an excursion steamer from the Thanoes during Bland Holt's " World " season. .'.'■"
There is great dissatisfaction h^re at the -statement made by the Sydney footballers that Christchurch was the best .team they had met in New" Zealand. During the Auckland match our team had the ball continually near the Sydney goal line. '■'■ ' . ■-■' . . ' ■ ' ■ ■ -. *■ : Volunteer Reform.
It is stated a complete reorganisation of the Volunteer Force -will take, place shortly, which will no doubt enable Mr Bryce to have a slap at the Thames men. The various naval brigades throughout New Zealand are, it is said, to be styled " Royal Nary Artillery Corps," and are; to be numbered in point of seniority, the maximum number of men. in ?ach company is to be fixed at 63, and the minimum 43, all corps to be efficiently equipped, and to draw capitation at the rate now in vogue. It is understood to be further intended to place the naval brigades in charge of torpedo defences and permanent batteries, and to station them on the right of the line.
Lyttlo, charged with bigamy, was com* mitted for trial, both marriages being distinctly proved.
. A company has been formed to work the Maria, Xarangahake, J. M. Clark, J. Chambers, and C. J. Stone being amongst the directors.
