OUR MINES.
PINAFORE. The manager reported last week as follows :—" I beg to inform you that there is no change to report since.my first letter. In fact, very little quartz has been broken down this week. In the stope no reef has been broken dS»wn since Monday last. At the open face we are .stripping off the mullock in order to get out a large parcel. The old drive has been cleaned out 60 feet. —ROBEBT COMEE." MOANATAIRI. The manager reports for last week as follows :— " Tunnel level: The drive underneath, main.slide has been extended (northerly and on course of reef) 92ft from cross-cut. At this point a break was met with, cutting off the country most favourable for gold. I there fora-stopped the drive and a leading stope over it. We shall carry the junction of two leaders in this stope. Some of the quartz here is of a kindly nature ; we have found colors of gold in it during the week. It is impossible to say what may be found in this locality, but the fact of our having seen colorsof the precious metal proves that both the quartz and country are congenial for its existence, and should we get a good payable reef in this quarter, it would make a mine in itself, as little or nothing has been done in it either above or below tunnel level. No. 2 reef, tunnel level, is without change to report, and the same may be said of drives southwest of Wo. 1 crosscut, also of All Nations stopes, 80ft. level, as well as that of No. 9 1 hangingwall lead. No. 9 footwall lead, at and below 80ft level, is producing a good deal of general stuff. Occasional colors are found in it. Central Italy section: Rising and stoping is being carried on here. The quartz has a promising appearance for gold. Nonpareil section: The shaft has been discovered since my last, through which an abundance of air passes, and it is in a pretty good condition. Three or four days' work will put it in good repair. We shall open out on one of the leaders intersected by our crosscut next week, when we shall be able to pass the quartz through the Nonpareil shaft to main tunnel. The battery will commence crushing on Monday next $ 40
head will be employed, most of which will be on company's stuff.—J. G. VrviAN."
