Yesterdayi The shipwrecked crew of- the Makarau arrived this morning in the cutter Mana. They state that late on the afternoon ;ef the 7th, the weather became rough, the wind blowing from the northward, and the barge began to open up. By Friday morning, she had taken in a considerable quantity of water, and, after laboring heavily in an unmanageable state several hours, suddenly went over on her beamends. This was about half way between Cuvier Island and the Bed Mercuries. There was no hope of saving the vessel by remaining on board, and the dingy was therefore got clear and launched about 8 a.m. Unfortunately, the rowlocks were missing, and substitutes had to be con* structed with pieces of rope. All hands then embarked, and the craft was steered for Mercury Island, which was safely reached several hours afterwards.
