Thoroughbred Mares for Auckland.

The breeding and racing stud of MrGk | G. Stead, of jrfussley Park, near Christ- 5. church, has for some weeks past been ad- i vertised for sale by auction, on -November s the 11th. The Auckland Stud ,Company ' have, however, greatly .diminished the number of animals to go'■to the hammer, by purchasing in one lot all: the splendid thoroughbred mares of the stud—2o in. number. The actual price has not trans-', pired, but; we understand it is close on £10,000. We give a brief sketch of the breeding of each :— Fairyland, by'-'Orlando—El Dorado/ Orlando, who won-the Derby in 1 1844, was Bire of Teddington:~also a Derby winner, Fazaolette, Fitzroland, andDibphantus, all winners of tha-2000'Guinea's, and Imperieuse, winner of the 1000 Guineas and St. Leger. In 1875 a yearling out of Fairyland realised ' 1100 guineas at the Cobbam Stud Sale. Deviation, by Flageolet—Eva.—Flageolet won the Criterion Stakes, 1872 } Goodwood Cup, 1873 ; and ran Becond for the Grand Prix. .' A son of his, Raven dOr won fhe Leger in 1879, and Zut, another of his offspring, won. two of the great French races in 11879. Era won the Doncaster Stakes, and Breadalbane,grandsire of D3viation, was brother to the celebrated BtaUwSh Blair. Athol. .

Thor.manby, Lady Hawthorn's fall brother^ a 150.." won the Blue Sibbon of the English Turf,.' 1 Lovebird, by Maccaroni— Bettor-half, .Maecaroni won the Derby and 2,000 guineas in 1863, and is eire of Caaielia, Macgregg^ and Spinaway, wl)o, won respectively the' 1,009 '- and 2,000 guineas, and Oab, Lovebird-'liai from the d&xa'e side the celebrated Weatherbit or Kalpie strain, and is therefore related to Maid of Honour and Kenilworth. Iri 1875 Macearoni was sold for 7,100 guineas. Naiad, by Traducer—Mermaid. She ia a full sister toLurline (Darcbin's dam), Prometheus, Castaway, Le Loup, aud half-sister to,:Natator and Watarwitch. Nel lie Moore, by* Voltigeur—Fickle, ' Shr? IB one of the last daughters of the femou* Volfcigeur; her dam ia a daughter oi Dundoe," who ran second to Kettledrum in the Derby* Dundee waß by Weatherbit—Miss Aldcroft. Florence Maouthyi by Maccaroni—Lady Morgan. Her sire won the Leger, Oaks, and 3,0©0 Ghiiueas, and is own brother to Aehie^Eaeat, winner o£ . the Oaks and Leger, ■ Crinon was by Newmarket out of See.Baw»s dam, Margery Diw. Sweet Oip^ly, by Lord Clifden—Cecilia. Her sjre won the Leger, and is sira of Petvaroh, winner of the Ascot and Epsom G-o'-dt Cups, Prinoe of Wales' Stakes, Isger, 2,000 guineas, &c. Sweet Cicely's dam won' the 1,00.1 guineas in '73. ' • Tres Deuce, by Traduce*—Gitana. She ia fall sister to Calumny., and dam of Louie. , Steppe, hy Saunterer—Seclusion.
