OUR MINES.

'"oP ' '"MOANATAIBI:' ' : The manager reports for last week as follows I:—"Tunnel level: Ko. 3 leader in drive S.Wi of No. ,1 crosscut has shown an improvement the last day or two, some b,f ;the stone showing gold. Communication- has been effected with the above drive and stopes above 80ft level. Good ventilation is now secured in this quarter. Wte'have a Very large block!of ground to stope here, and which I believe will prove to 7 be payable. No. 2 N.W. crosscut: The leader I referred to in my last proves to be the-hangingwall portion of No. 2 reef^ltis about 3ft in width; some of the 'quartz looks well for gold; several colors were obtained this week. All ■'Nations- stopes above 80ft, level-have showed gold pretty freely the last breaking, or two. No. 9 hangingwalJ. branch * lead at same level is producing a little picked stone,. No. 9 footwall lead, 80ft levelj.is being stripped. The country is very tight, but it is congenial for gold. 'Central Italy section: A trial- parcel is being. broken. We have plenty of quartz at this point, and if it only yields a small percentage of,gold it will pay, as it is easily got. Occasional colors are found in the stuff, but the battery will test its value on the whole. Nonpareil section: We have not met with shaft as yet, but it appears that we have the chamber; it is collapsed, of course. Much dispatch cannot be made with a job. of this sort, as there are only two men employed at it, and the air will not admit of the- - employment of more hands. Morning Star stopes have not produced any picked stone lately, and the quantity of general stuff has fallen off this week in consequence of our having to take one or two of the men to repair the Morning Star shaft, which will be finished to-day.. J.. G.Vivian." CALEDONIAN. The quantity of picked stone bagged on Saturaay was 271bs from the rise on No. "1 "reef from the old No. 1 level, and 20lbs from the drive on the same reef from the f top of Captain Bichards' rise. ■ The distance between the two places is about 15 feet, so the manager expects to effect communication some time this week. j ' . . QUEEN OF BEAUTY. An interim retorting took place on Friday and Saturday for the splendid ; yield' of 9440zs gold, the result of only ' seven days' work; About 130 loads-of general dirt were'treated." Some of the C.picked- stone recently obtained was not crushed., )..-'■ ■ .. : _l
