>'.-.;; Wellington, Saturday. On the New Zealand Loan Bill the Council divided :—Ayes, 20; noes, 13. Ayes: Ackland, Baillie, Bonar, Brett, Buckland, P. Dignan, Grace, Hart; Henderson, Johnson, Lahmanh, Mantell, Mar tin, McLean, Oliver, Pharazyn, Robinson, Whitaker, Williamson, and Wood. Noes : Fraser, Gray, Holmes, Menzies, Miller, Peacock, Peter, Reynolds, Scotland, Stevens, Whitmore, Wigley, and Wilson. Both bills were then committed and reported without amendments and passed. Mr Whitaker said he did not think the amount proposed to be borrowed at all unreasonable. He was quite sure; the whole of the railways would pay the interest of their construction. In conclusion, he hoped to see all political distinctions and boundaries done away with. The Council divided on the North Island Main Trunk Railway Loan Bill:-— Ayes, 24 : Messrs Ackland, Baillie, Bonar Brett, Buckley, P. Dighan, GraceV Gray, 1 Hart, Henderson, Johnson, Lahmann, •Martin, Mantell, McLean, Menzies, Miller, Oliver, Pharazyn, Robinson, Whitaker, Wigley, Williamson, Wood. Noes 9 :. Fraser, Holmes, Peacock, Peter, Reynolds, Scotland, Stevens, Whitmpre, and Wilson.

Mr Whitaker moved the secoud read* ing of the .Roads and Bridges Construction Bill. Mr [Reynolds said it was absurd to think that hon. gentlemen could study bills as they were being pushed upon them. He hoped such an agitation would take place shortly that would be the means of doing away altogether with the Legislatiye Conncil. For -himself, he washed bis hands of all the business, and and so let the blame rest on the heads of the Government. The second reading was then agreed to. > The Council rose at 5.30! •
