la breaking down on Wednesday in the rise from tbe old No. 1 lerel aid the drive from the prospecting w'nze sank on gome leaders below No. 2 level, 25lba of sped* mens and 2 r)lbs of pickr 1 stone were baggri,' and'yesterday another 'haul of 3Olbs of specimens and 151bs of p'ekc-i stone came to hand. The fact of gocd stoae coming from the rise is of some importance, as there is a block of considerable size to take out on the No. 1 reef here. An improvement has also taken place lately in the No. 1 reef ia the drive west at the top of Cr.pt. Richards" rise, colors of gold having been-. seen, principally in the hangingwall portion. In breaking down 'i the rise to day 401bs of picked stone were bigged. The reef, which is 3ft thick, is composed of a mixture of blue, white, and brown quartz, and shows gold all through, though the richest of the stone has so far coitie from, the centre. After to-morrow no more qaartz will be broken, as , the rise will be pushed up on the haagingwall of the reef, .in order to cuarect with the drive at the top of Gapt. Eichards' rise, and thus improve, the ventilation. In the above drive the. reef is 10 feet wide at least,-and has shown gome nice £abs and colors of gold during the last day or two. The rise is r:ght above the old ran of gold, so the manager -is in hopes that he has picked up the contibua. tion of it. A few days more will see. The drive from the prospecting winze at No. 2 level is right under the run of goldi and the stone which' has come to hand from here is very rich. Some good pieces were obtained to-day. The manager is in hopes of tracing this gold into one of other of the main reefsj as, he is confident there is good crushing dirt in this iocality if he can only find it, no work worthy of note having bean done here. 1 The winze on No. 6 reef from the intermediate level is being-sunk. A very htjjb reef is in hand, and gold has been seen in it. A trial lot is now going through the mill. ' ' - : " " 7 ' . "" . QUEEN OF: BEAUTY. In breaking down in the face of drive at ' No: " 9 level this ' afternoon" the manager obtained 601bs /good I,picked stone, and a capital' show was 'also left in the face. "The 'junction of the cross-lode, worked in the City of "London mine some years ago, was' met 'with 'yesterday. '"'■". ■ ' ' NEW PEINCE IMPEEIAL. The reef in the drive east of the shaft is coming in'a little, and is about 2ft; in thickness at present. The'stone is becoming much more favorable for the existence of gold, a deal of dark mineral; somewhat resembling mundic, having made itsTappearance. This same mineral is considered a splendid indication fo'rgold in the Bright Smile mine. The quart* from this end is if any thing more solid than in western'drive. In breaking downcast night, about 121bs-of good picked stone were bagged. The gold in these is well throughout the stone though not so coarse as that found in the seaward winze,
