The A.J.C. Spring Meeting.
Sydney, September 5. The second dayjs racing of the Australian Jockey. Club's spring meeting took,. place to-day. The weather was fiae/'and ' the attendance of visitors very large. His Excellency Lord Loft us and suite were again present during the day. The race for the Spring Maiden Stakes, 1| miles, - resulted as follows :—Hecla, 1; Saimora, '• , 2; Eva, 3. For the Great Metropolitan Stakes the following 19 horiis started :— Lordßurghley, Earber.Proctdr.Creswiok,' '<■ Suwarrow, Sting, Gudarz, Gipsy, Cooper, Strithearn, Lord Orville, Comet; Stella, Britisher, Prima Donna.l Ellsworth, Harebell, Wesfcbury, Masquerade/ ahil^ - Brunette. Sting was a strong favorite at the start; the running was made by, Harebell and Brunette, who led the field until tha home tarn was reached,, when Coniefc, Sting, Britisher, Proctor and Kingsworth ,„,. appeared most prominent. down. '' the straight Comet led, followed by Britisher, Masquerade, was close behind . on the outside, and coming up rapidly, ultimately passing Comet and Britisher and
finishing rather easily by a length and half in front, with Comet second, and Britisher
a gobd, third, Kingsworth. fourth,. Lardv-^ Orrille 'fifth, and Sting"sixth. TimeV^P 3mins. 323ecs, The Squatters' Handicap ' was wen by Brian Boru^ Hy pathea second^ Walloroo third—after a splendid finish, Brian Boru only winning by a length.
