COUNTY COUNCIL.
The following is the Surveyor's report, presented at the monthly meeting, held this afternoon. :— Hastings Riding : Men have been employed during the month in clearing slips and otherwise maintaining and keeping the Tapu road open for traffic. Men have ■ also been employed in removing the slip at Carran's and making a temporary dray road over a portion of it, which will be a great present convenience to settlers. The clearing of the road permanently must be delayed till that portion of the slips within high water mark is washed away by the tide.. Waiotahi Hiding: Men have' been employed during the month in Moanatairi, Waiotahi, and Col larbone Creeks in repairing and maintaining roads and footpaths. An increased number .of men should be employed in this riding to repair and render passable for traffic the Waiotahi road where a con • siderable amount of quartz is ready to be conveyed to the batteries. Eauaeranga Hiding: Men have been employed during the month in maintaining and re pairing the roads and footpaths of this riding. Parawai Hiding: Repairs have been effected during the month on the Cemetery road and Kauaeranga Valley road. Drains have been cleared and roads ' and footpaths maintained. Totara Hiding: A few., men have been employed "'■ the month in repairing the worst portion .of the Ohinemuri main road, and this .road has so much improved during the month that the coach between liere and Ohinemuri is now running regularly. Hepairs have also been effected on the worst portions of the Tairua track, and this, road is considerably improved for traffic. Ohinemuri Hiding: On the Te Aroha road one man has been kept repairing the bad portions, and another week of good weather would make it passable for coach traffic. On the Katikati road, very bad portions have been cordnroyed, and men have been employed in clearing the. water-tables and • levelling the road generally. About a week of good weather would enable drays to go on this'road again. The Waihi road is in fair condition, and only a very little work has been done on.it during the month. The footpaths and watertables in Paeroa have been repaired and cleared, and culverts repaired. The Mackaytown ferry-boat has been painted and repaired, and is now in fair condition. The con* . tractor for !Nos. 1 and 2 sections for the Otunui road is proceeding fairly with his work.—Alex. Aitken, County Surveyor
