OUR MINES.
QUEEN OF BEAUTY.
The manager telegraphed this morning: —" Obtained 1251bs specimens last night, and 1201bs specimens with 7Olbs picked" stone this morning. — Geobge Black." The above hauls came partly from the stopes, and partly from the /drive' at the bottom level, and the stone is of a very rich character. The leading drive is now going in on the footwall of the reef. Some of the directors inspected the stone got daring the past few days this morning, and- expressed themselves thoroughly well satis*
fied with its quality. The continuous hauls of rich stone have had the effect of sending the shares up, and they were standing at 45s this morning. Judging by the large amount,of specimens obtained since clean-, ing up took place on Thursday last—79Blbs specimens and 2821bs picked stone —the yield for the present month will far surpass that for August, while the show left under foot in driving predicts a block of exceeding richness when the c«xt level is opened up. CALEDONIAN. The manager reports for last week as follows: —"No. 2 level : I have ceased r working on the hangingwall leader for the present as there was no improvement. Specimen leader in chamber is still about the same size and appearance, but no gold was *seen in last breaking down. There is a trial lot going through the mill from here, and by its appearance its payable dirt. Winze, foot wall No. 1 reef: There is a marked improvement in the leaders, i and gold showing in them all more or less,! and in leader especially going west, which is 10 inches in thickness. Stopes, Ofcago section, are discontinued for the present, as a trial lot of 10 loads from here only yielded sozs retorted geld. I have started sinking below intermediate level, and the reef looks very promising. It is from three to : five feet thick, and the same in appearance as the stopes overhead. This grade dirt would pay with a battery connected with the mine. No. 1 level: Red Queen crosscut is very nearly cleaned out and re timbered. The reef is looking very promising in drive west at top of Capt. Richards' rise. Rise from old No. 1 level: The reef is improved in appearance, and strong colors of gold were showing to-day in the solid reef. A trial lot from each of these places, 3 loads from each, gave 6ozs 15dwts, and should pay. I here enclose J. Mclnnis' duplicate for gold. They have given up their tribute.—T. B. Hicks.'' GOLD RETURNS. Caledonian. — Paltridge and party have crushed 8 loads for the good yield of 21ozs 12dwts gold. .......,.-.-■ Collarbone. — Brownlee and party have banked loz 2dwts gold.
