QUEEN OF BEAUTY.
The following telegram was despatched to the directors this morning by the mine manager :—" Assay of 4890z5, 54s 2d per ounce. Obtained this day 2cwt of specimens and lewf of picked stone.— George Black." This is a magnificent haul, and by far the largest yet made in the bottom level, andis a good guarantee of the richness of next month's cleaning-up. PRINCE IMPERIAL. Driving is being poshed ahead, both east and west, at No. 4 level. Seaward, the face is in fully 20 feet, which leaves about 48 feet to connect; with the winze As he is not so pinched for room now, Mr Clark expects to traverse this distance in about a fortnight. The dig is still being put in on the leaders in the footwall of the reef, which has now decreased in Bi7se to two feet. The quartz is getting ' very much more like that obtained from the bottom of the winze, and gold is seen pretty freely in it when broken down ; a few picked stone also came to hand from here and the other drive. Eastward, the ' face is in about 12 feet, the leader being about 8 feet thick, the whole of which is being carried in the drive. The framework of the hoppers is completed, and, should the weather continue fine, Mr Clark expects to have them ready to stow quarts in by Tuesday next. He expects they will hold about 25 loads. A large amount of quartz is now on the surface, besides what is stowed down below, so that the first crushing will be a pretty , large one. PINAFORE. On Tuesday last the Directors assem* bled at the company's office, Auckland, all being present, and unanimously appointed Mr Robert Comer, late of the Moanatairi Company, as mine manager of the Pinafore Claim. We congratulate the new company on its good choice and are glad to see Mr Comer again enrolled as one of our mine managers. The Pinafore Com- : pan? is a very strong one, with a power-, ml Board of Directors, and we trust that Mr Comer will be fortunate in finding the samo good gold, won from the Pinafore on the surface by the late proprietors, at a lower level. Mr B. Mac Donald Scott, the manager of the Company, in floating 'the company as be has done, has certainly, won his spurs as a legal manager in Auckland. Mr Comer took charge of the mine yesterday, and work will be started on Monday. He will at once start to beat out the block of stopes opened up by the late proprietors, and which yielded such splendid returns. He will also clean out a drive put in by them and extend it so as to cut the reef some distance ahead of the present workings, thus opening up a fresh block of stopes. GOLD RETURNS. Bonanza (Otunui).—A parcel of 351bs of picked stone from this claim was treated at the Alburuia battery yesterday. The amalgam was retorted this morning, and gave 7ozs 13dwts gold.
